OrbitSplit is a personal trip planning tool. We collect only what's needed to make the app work, never sell your data, and give you full control over your information at any time.
Who we are
OrbitSplit is a web application for trip planning and expense splitting, accessible at orbitsplit.com. For the purposes of this policy, "we", "us", and "OrbitSplit" refer to the operators of this service.

What information we collect
Information you provide directly
- Account information — your email address and password when you create an account, and optionally a display name.
- Trip data — anything you enter into the app: trip names, destinations, dates, traveller names, places, expenses, documents, checklist items, journal entries, and photos.
Information collected automatically
- Authentication tokens — session tokens stored locally in your browser to keep you signed in.
- Basic usage data — standard server logs including IP address and browser type, retained briefly for security and debugging purposes.
Information we do not collect
- We do not collect payment information (OrbitSplit is currently free).
- We do not track your behaviour across other websites.
- We do not build advertising profiles.
- We do not use third-party analytics services that track individual users.
How we use your information
We use the information we collect solely to operate and improve OrbitSplit:
- To create and manage your account and authenticate you securely.
- To store and sync your trip data across sessions and devices.
- To send transactional emails you request — account confirmation, password resets.
- To identify and fix bugs or security issues.
We do not use your data for advertising, and we do not sell or rent it to any third party.
Data storage & security
Your data is stored securely using Supabase, a hosted database platform. All data is encrypted in transit using HTTPS and encrypted at rest.
Access to your data is protected by Row Level Security (RLS) — a database-level control that ensures each user can only access their own data, even at the infrastructure level.
Photos you upload are stored as part of your trip data in the same secure database. We recommend not uploading images containing sensitive personal documents.
While we take reasonable technical measures to protect your information, no system is completely secure. If you become aware of any security concern, please contact us immediately.
Your rights
You have the following rights regarding your personal data:
- Access — you can view all your trip data directly within the app at any time.
- Correction — you can update your display name and any trip data directly in the app.
- Deletion — you can delete your account and all associated data from the Profile page. This is immediate and permanent.
- Data portability — contact us if you'd like an export of your data in a machine-readable format.
- Withdrawal of consent — you can stop using the service and delete your account at any time.
If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), you may also have rights under the GDPR including the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
Children's privacy
OrbitSplit is not directed at children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we'll update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. For significant changes, we'll notify you by email where possible.
Your continued use of OrbitSplit after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
